5 Steps to Prepare your Skin for Flawless Makeup Application

5-steps-to-prepare-your-skin-for-flawless-makeup-application

Flawless makeup starts with a flawless canvas. Clean, moisturised skin is the first step to achieving fresh, radiant makeup every time. If your skin is dry, rough, flaking or excessively oily in any areas, your makeup just won’t sit right, and when a bottle of good quality foundation costs anything from £20 to £40+ you want to make sure you are making the most of it!

Follow our 5 tips to ensure you have the perfect canvas for applying makeup.

1. Always Cleanse.

For your makeup to look its best, it needs to be applied to perfectly clean skin. It’s no good applying makeup on top of old makeup, it will look muddy, dirty, and you will just be spreading around dirt and oil that will lead to breakouts. If you’re in a rush, quickly swipe over your skin with the Lady Green Cleansing Micellar Water, this will remove all old makeup, dirt and oil, soothe the skin and leave the skin clean and refreshed. If you have a little more time or prefer a foaming cleanser, massage in the Supermood Gentle Foam Wash with a little water, then rinse away and pat dry. This will help to rebalance the skin and is suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive.

2. Ensure your Skin is Exfoliated.

Exfoliation is essential for revealing soft, glowing skin. Our skin sheds itself and rids itself of old dead skin cells every 2-3 weeks. These dead skin cells can easily clog our pores and cause blemishes. Using a gentle exfoliator once or twice a week will ensure our skin stays soft and smooth, and prevents rough or flaking skin. The Lady Green Gentle Facial Scrub is good for sensitive skin that gets irritated easily as it uses jojoba beads that have round edges to gently slough away dead skin cells without causing micro-tears in the skin. For a more intense exfoliation, recommended for oily or combination skin, the Supermood Luxury Peel Mask will effectively dissolve all dead skin cells and reveal brighter, fresher looking skin.

3. Use a Hydrating or Toning Product.

Once the skin is perfectly clean and exfoliated, any products you then use on top are more readily absorbed into the pores to work their magic. This is the perfect time to use a toner or hydrating product to plump and perk up tired looking skin. A hydrating product is designed to increase the water content in the skin, helping the skin maintain its proper moisture balance. The Evolve Beauty Hyaluronic Acid Serum plumps the skin and helps to regulate cell turnover to result in skin that feels much more balanced. Each bottle contains 200mg of hyaluronic acid which penetrates deep into the skin for an effective boost of hydration, as well as increasing collagen production to firm the skin.

4. Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise!

Probably the most important step in your skin prep routine. Makeup doesn’t sit well on skin that isn’t moisturised as it will gather in any dry areas and you won’t achieve a smooth finish. Choose a moisturiser suitable for your skin type. If you use a moisturiser that is too rich for your skin, you might find your skin gets oily quickly or you breakout. If you choose a moisturiser that isn’t rich enough, your skin might still feel dry and your makeup wont look its best. For oily/combination skin, try the Lady Green Beautifying Day Cream, and for normal/dry skin, the Evolve Beauty Daily Renew Moisturiser.

5. Spritz with a Mist to Fix Makeup in Place.

So you’ve followed the steps above and applied your makeup, next you want to make sure your flawless application stays looking fresh as long as possible. To perk up tired skin throughout the day, use the Evolve Beauty Daily Defense Moisture Mist. This product will protect your skin from environmental aggressors, calm irritated skin, increase hydration levels and freshen up your makeup. Use straight after applying makeup as a ‘makeup fixer’, and spritz over your face throughout the day to refresh and perk up tired skin.
