Organic Skincare for Oily Skin
As a sufferer of oily skin myself, I like to think I know a thing or two about keeping that midday shine at bay.
What oily skinned girls need is to create a balanced and healthy skin, that allows a normal amount of sebum to naturally keep the skin moisturised.
These are my top three organic skincare products that I have found work well for reducing the amount of sebum that the skin produces. They work to nourish and protect the skin, rather than strip away natural oils that many conventional and mainstream products tend to do. I find stripping, drying products, especially those containing alcohol, just seem to make oily skin so much worse. Your skin naturally goes into overdrive and produces more sebum to make up for the fact that you have just stripped away its natural oils. This exasperates the problem and sends your skin into the never ending cycle of oily, then dry.
Living Nature Purifying Cleanser
Those with oily skin may prefer to use a foaming cleanser to properly remove impurities in the evening, and as a refreshing way to cleanse the skin in the morning. The traditional foaming agent in most conventional skincare products is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. This chemical is widely used in the mainstream beauty industry as it is cheap and can be used to create the foam in most beauty products, from shampoo to hand wash to face wash. The problem with this ingredient is that it is incredibly drying on the skin. As discussed above, the more moisture you strip from your skin, the more likely it is to produce more oil to compensate.
This cleanser contains a natural foaming agent called Kumerahou. This ingredient provides the same rich foaming properties as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, but as it is a 100% natural ingredient, it is much more gentle and won’t dry out the skin. It also contains Active Manuka Honey which helps to heal wounds and is known for its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. This is especially useful for oily skin which is more prone to breakouts, as it will help speed up the healing of blemishes.
Living Nature Hydrating Toning Gel
Dehydrated skin is a skin condition rather than a skin type. It is possible to have both oily skin and dehydrated skin at the same time, which can make for quite a frustrating combination! Dehydrated skin is caused by using harsh and drying skincare products, including ones containing alcohol and synthetic fragrance, as well as not using adequate protection from the sun. This toning gel helps to balance the pH levels in the skin to prevent skin from over producing oil, as well as firming, toning and adding moisture. One of its key ingredients includes Harakeke Flax Gel, an intense natural skin hydrator that also reduces puffiness, redness, as well as cools and soothes the skin. Apply this onto dry skin after cleansing. Massage in well and wait a few minutes before applying moisturiser on top. Using this morning and night will combat the dehydration and provide a balanced surface for moisturiser to sink in and work its magic.
Living Nature Balancing Day Lotion
It is still so important to moisturise even if you suffer with oily skin. Moisturiser provides a protected and balanced surface creating a good base for makeup. A good moisturiser will contain natural ingredients that protect against free radical damage as well as daily external environmental aggressors. This lotion is a light-weight moisturiser that feels weightless and provides just enough moisture for oily skin, without leaving it feeling greasy. It contains Active Manuka Honey which acts as a natural humectant, and will help draw moisture to the skin. It also naturally contains gentle acids which help aid the clearing of dead skin cells as well as heal and prevent acne.
Over the age of 25 it is important to use skincare that contains ingredients to help fight free radical damage. Free radicals are toxins that are caused by a bad diet with lots of unhealthy fats, pollution, smoking and alcohol. Our skins ability to fight these free radicals diminishes as we age, so it’s good to give it a little helping hand to avoid premature wrinkles, age spots and pigmentation. This moisturiser contains Totora Extract, which is a natural and potent antioxidant (3 times stronger than Vitamin E!) to neutralise free radicals and slow down the ageing process.
