How to Brighten Dull, Winter Skin with Natural Skincare

How to Brighten Dull, Winter Skin with Natural Skincare

Cold weather = A sluggish skin cell turnover = Flaky, dull skin.

Which also equals, not a good look! As the weather turns frosty, and we start to don our favourite scarves and winter jackets, our skincare routine needs some adjusting too. Cold weather can strip the skin of its natural moisture, and the cell turnover rate can slow down considerably. This means that the rate in which your skin sheds its dead skin cells decreases, so a helping hand is needed to let that luminous, smooth, bright complexion shine through.

Here is how to keep your skin bright and glowing throughout the colder months.

Exfoliate with a natural AHA acid mask once a week.

What is an AHA acid mask? Well, AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acid, and skincare products with AHA’s in them help to ‘unglue’ the top layer of dead skin cells to help promote new skin cell growth. It all sounds a bit scary, I know, the word ‘acid’ and ‘skin’ shouldn’t really be in the same sentence, but I promise this kind of acid is kind to the skin and very beneficial. Supermood have the perfect product for this purpose. Their ‘Luxury Peel Mask’ contains natural fruit AHA’s to unclog the pores, stimulate exfoliation and improve collagen density resulting in firmer, younger looking skin. Organic Seabuckthorn also helps to reduce inflammation in the skin and will be especially beneficial to those with acne prone skin. Smooth this mask over clean, dry skin and leave on for up to 15 minutes. Your skin may appear slightly red after removing the mask, but this is normal and will fade in 20-30 minutes.

Use a konjac sponge to deeply cleanse your skin.

Made from 100% vegetable fibres, konjac fibres effectively deep cleanse pores helping to remove impurities and excess oil that can make the skin appear dull. Using a konjac sponge will also soften and smooth the skin, brightening its appearance and providing a gentle exfoliation. The ‘Lemon’ konjac sponge from Lady Green will tighten the pores for more even looking skin.

Use a product with hyaluronic acid to give a boost of hydration.

Theres that word again…’acid’. Hyaluronic acid, however, is completely different to AHA acids. Hyaluronic acid is a gel-like molecule that helps our skin to retain moisture, and can attract up to 1000 times its weight in water. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid that naturally occurs in our skin, decreases. To boost hydration in your skin and give it a more youthful, fresher look, hyaluronic acid can work wonders when used correctly. The Evolve Beauty – Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a pure, clear, gel-like serum with 200mg of hyaluronic acid to plump out fine lines and hydrate the skin from within. Use on clean, dry skin, before applying moisturiser, morning and evening, after 2 weeks, you should start to notice a difference in the tone and texture of your skin.

Use a brightening face oil.

Designed to penetrate deep into the pores for a truly indulgent treat for the skin, face oils are the best way to bring back radiance and glow. All of our face oils are 100% natural and made using only the finest plant based ingredients to target specific concerns. When choosing a face oil, make sure you consider your skin type to check you are choosing one most suitable, as some oils can clog oily skin, or not be moisturising enough for dry skin. Coconut oil, for example, should be avoided if you have acne prone skin, but will work amazingly well on dry skin! A good all rounder, is the Clean Beauty Co. Rosy Glow Facial Elixr. This nourishing oil is packed full of omegas, fatty acids, anti oxidants and vitamins to provide all the goodness your skin needs for staying supple and hydrated throughout winter. Pat onto slightly damp skin for better absorption!
